While ceramic gas turbines for cars or generators are still a decade or more away, the ceramic diesel is likely to make it to the auto showroom a lot sooner - probably before 1990 .... Among the diesel components that have been ceramic-insulated on a trial basis are pistons, liners, cylinder heads, valve seats, and valve guides.

On voit (...) un moteur "céramisé" diesel 2 litres (...) le guide de soupape en zircone, le siège de soupape en zircone et la tête de soupape en nitrure de silicium, le conduit d'échappement en titanate d'aluminium, le haut de chemise en zircone, le dessus de piston revêtu de zircone et enfin l'axe de piston en nitrure de silicium . Les pièces céramiques visibles sur la photo (...) sont : la préchambre de combustion en nitrure de silicium et le patin de culbuteur en zircon.
